I like cars. I like cars ‘cus they are fun. So I really like cars that are fun to drive. That’s why I have a 1991 Honda CRX.

Not mine obviously but equally awesome. The CRX ticks all the boxes as a car. It’s timelessly good looking, very reliable, not something you see everyday, handles well and boy is it quick (well, for a small car). One of the first cars to feature Honda’s refined Vtec Engine, it defines the term “pocket rocket” and is one of the all time great hot hatches (even though its really a coupe).

Honda never really made a proper successor to the Mk2 CRX. There was the ‘Del Sol’ which originally replaced the CRX, but that was an awful disgrace of a car that’s about as pretty as a rotting sandal. 17 years on since the last CRX, Honda have come up with a new concept that finally looks like a worthy successor. Meet the CR-Z

Honda CRZHonda CR-Z New Honda CRZ Personally, I think the CR-Z looks stunning. As an original CRX owner, it is exactly how you would imagine a CRX would look after 17 years of further development. It’s a bit too curvy at the back, but it looks awesome from the side. I want one. I want one now please.

Unfortunately you will have to wait until the summer 2010 for general release, and likely another year before it will be available for car rental. No exact Spec’s on the engine as yet, but it looks like Honda are going to make it a Hybrid. Honda Claim it will be the worlds first Sporty Hybrid Coupe, and the first petrol-electric car to have a 6 speed manual gearbox. As long as its still as quick and fun to drive as the original, I’ll be happy to do my bit to prevent climate change at the same time.

By the way Honda, if you feel like sending me one to test drive, I should be able to find the time :)
