New Golf GTi Review
I was lucky enough to be invited to test drive the brand new VW Golf GTi (Mk6) earlier this month. VW invited various members of the VW community out to Millbrook Testing Grounds to drive the new GTi. It was a great day, and a treat from VW to the GTi’s true fans.
They are confident in the new GTi and rightfully so. It is certainly the best one since the infamous Mk2. I usually dislike modern cars, as they tend to feel a bit numb and disconnected from the road, softened by modern technology and dampening, which appeals to your everyday driver but not to driving fans like myself. The Mk6 on the other hand is a breath of fresh air. Despite being stocked with modern tech including the new ESP system, it feels connected to the road and is an engaging drive. The steering is heavy for a power steering car which I really like, as you get a real feel of the road and chassis. Its pretty quick too with a 0-60 of less than 7 seconds. The new ESP system has been refined beautifully. It does everything you expect it too, but is not over intrusive of your driving when you are giving it some beans. We did an emergency stop from 100mph and it stayed perfectly straight and stopped dead.
In all its a must have for golf lovers, and thoroughly recommended. Here is a video of the day.
We test drove it on the alpine track which was great. If you are looking for car hire spain for their rugged mountains, it would be ideal.
