2011 Sofas

Sofa Trends in 2011

Sofas are the most important piece of furniture in our living rooms and have seen many style changes over the years. They represent an important investment, in fact it might well be our most expensive piece of furniture, so we expect it to serve us well and to keep its good new looks well in to the future.

2011 Sofas

These requirements are born out by the sofa design trends we are seeing emerge for 2011. Just as good art is a reflection of society, good interior design is a reflection of the external environment. We have now emerged from the throwaway society of yesteryear, and the dominant forces now in operation are environmental concerns and a new austerity. This is reflected by a desire for sustainability and value, though with a refusal to compromise on quality and style.

This trend is also seen in the modern approach of designing sofas to achieving the optimum performance and beauty out of alternative materials by combining them in a single design. Often leathers are used to give sofas a sleek contemporary style whilst fabrics add comfort and warmth. There is also a trend of accenting sofas with complimentary armchairs.

This method can work very well when combining modern and classic styles, another interior design trend moving into the New Year. Functionality is also a driving force in 2011 and when purchasing a new sofa many of us find that it makes sense to seek to maximise its functionality by purchasing one which can also serve as a guest bed.

In current times far fewer of us are moving homes and consequently the need to maximise space is increasing. Many of us are finding that corner sofas can provide an answer to this problem. Colours tend to be on the neutral side as these are both a modern trend and sustainable as they will be as fashionable in the future as they are today. We are seeing much use of beiges and browns along with black, white and greys.

Although these colours are neutral, they are not necessarily cold or dull; on the contrary modern neutral colours can be warm and rich, yet they retain the ability to provide a neutral background against which rich saturated colours can be displayed.

Welsh Police

Welsh Police Get £280k in Personal Injury Claims

To Wales now where it turns out police stations are not as safe as you think they are. New information reveals that in the last 3 years, 93 personal injury claims for compensation were made by police staff for injuries in their workplace.

Welsh Police

There have been claims for injuries sustained by “defective office furniture”, an “item falling from cupboard”, and “injury in gym”. Dyfed-Powys Police paid out more than £94,000, South Wales £84,000, North Wales £52,000 and Gwent £49,000. The figures reveal 93 compensation claims were put in by police staff working for the four Welsh forces since 2007.

The largest pay out was for £37,862 by South Wales Police in 2007/08. This included £16,000 in damages.

“There are no recognisable trends nor any underlaying issues in the number or nature of claims received. A robust approach is taken when investigating, handling and or defending each claim, dependant upon the individual circumstances and merits. This benefit can be reflected in the continued reduction in claims per annum.”

Police Chase

Lingerie Bandit Foiled

Police say a gloved lingerie bandit was scared off from his prize when a 22-year-old woman caught him as he was entering her mother’s home in Seymour Tuesday. The man, later identified as Ernest Larry Nelson aged 40 of Primrose Circle, Maryville, reportedly fled the scene in the 22-year-old’s mother’s car and a high-speed pursuit ensued when he was spotted by police.

Police Chase

The chase didn’t last long though, as Nelson allegedly started driving so erratically that the pursuing deputy had to stop following the man.

“I turned on my emergency lights and sirens so I could safely turn around on Sevierville Road and the suspect vehicle passed three cars on a sharp curve at a very high speed. Suspect was making too many dangerous maneuvers for me to safely continue the pursuit without risking innocent persons or property.”

Hurst turned around and responded to the victim’s home and spoke with the 22-year-old, who told him she was in the kitchen doing dishes when she heard the garage door open at about midday. Moments later the door to the kitchen opened and she was face to face with a gloved man.

Once the man saw the 22-year-old he left in a Hyundai station wagon belonging to the 22-year-old’s mother, the report said. At that point, the woman’s 45-year-old father returned home and told deputies he knew the name of a possible lingerie thief was Nelson.

The man showed the 22-year-old a picture of Nelson and she “advised this was the person that entered the home.” Authorities contacted the man’s wife in Knoxville and she said “she did let (Nelson) borrow her car, but did not give him permission to be at her home or enter her home,”.

Nelson returned the woman’s car to her workplace in Knoxville at about 1:30 p.m. and he was detained there and later brought to the Blount County Jail. Nelson reportedly told officers that he had gone to the woman’s home to “steal the sexy set of bras and panties that (she) wore one night and when he saw the daughter in the home he panicked.”

Nelson was arrested on charges of aggravated burglary and felony evading arrest. He was being held at the Blount County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $10,000 pending a 1:30 p.m. Jan. 12 hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court. Mong.
