Electric Vans Charging Station Goes Live

Exciting news for electricity fans this week with the opening of England’s first ever three-phase charging station for electric vans in London. The system can now be used free of charge, hoping to promote the use of electric vans in the city. It is located in a new refuelling station at a bus depot in Camden. Camden Council plan to become the first UK council to roll-out electric vehicles across its entire fleet.

Part of the power for the charging system will come from solar panels on the roof of the building. Although there are other charging stations in the city, this is the first that will be powerful enough to charge the much larger batteries used in electric vans.

It comes at the same time as Ford have announced that they have begun shipping their commercial electric transit connect vans in Europe and the US. The Transit Connect is a commercial delivery van that just happens to be plug-in EV. The Transit started shipping Tuesday of this week and Ford estimates that the Transit EV will make up about half of its total EV sales over the next decade.

Truck and van registrations have also hit a year high, rising to 22,834 units in November, an increase of 32.5% on the same period last year.
