If not the only one I will ever buy. You will no doubt have heard of last years succesful campaign to get Rage Against the Machine to Number 1 in order to beat the winner of X Factor in protest of its awfulness, and Simon Cowell. This year could prove to be even more embarrassing for the both Cowell and his TV show.

I am totally for this protest. I think the X Factor is quite simply gross. It is so false. None of these people will be successful and few are even remotely talented. But what I hate most about it is that it is forced upon us. How many people really want another series of this shit year in year out? Let alone the awful horrible songs these people are forced to sing on the show. Simon Cowell, you are past it. You have not successfully found a good artists for the best part of a decade. You are forcing bad music that you wish to remain on us because you can. Nobody wants to listen to Westlife covers any more! Nobody want a new boy band! We want new, exciting and different music that comes from people with heart and soul, that can sing and write music. The only reason people watch X Factor is because you refuse to let anyone do anything new!

So in protest this year, a group of actual respected and decent musicians are to record their version of one of the most experimental songs in music history. John Cage, for those of you that don’t know, is responsible for some of the strangest music ever written, with a passion for minimalism. This year a coalition of artists are gathering to record their version of perhaps his most profound piece 4′33″. It is essentially an orchestra sitting down at their instruments but playing nothing for the songs 4 minutes and 33 second duration.

Artists including Orbital, Imogen Heap, Pete Doherty, Billy Bragg, Coldcut, John McClure, The Kooks, Heaven 17 and The Big Pink are attending the recording session at Dean Street Studios in Soho, which will be produced by Paul Epworth, who won the Brit Award for best producer this year.

The proceeds of the track will go to charity, and would certainly outdo last years achievement of getting rage against the machine to number 1. It would without a doubt be the biggest upset to the mainstream music industry of all time, but at the same time the biggest achievement for real music fans ever. Get involved people. John Cage was a genuine legend and getting this to number 1 would allow him to have a legacy as big as he deserves.

In many cases it seems, they mar be far from the best.

So it is down to people like me, you and the young to take a new perspective, innovate and create new ideas. This is what progress is. Change. Here is a perfect example. Everybody hates speed cameras. Fact. But they do, to some extent, make the surrounding area of road a bit safer as drivers slow down to avoid a fine, statistically not reducing the amount of accidents, but at least the severity of them.

So the problem here is people driving too fast and the current solution is to charge those who do. But why stop there says Kevin Richardson of the USA. Law abiding doesn’t have to be all punishment no gain. Why not make it more fun to obey the speed limit than exceed it?

So Richardson invented the Speed Camera Lottery. Those caught speeding will still be charged. But those who obey the speed limit will be entered into a lottery to win some of the money lost by those driving too fast. A much better system many would agree, but is it more effective? Volkswagen built one for a trail run in Sweden on a busy urban road and the results were clear. The average speed of cars and vans dropped by 22%. See for yourself:

Case in point: Skateboarding. You may have thought that this extreme sport had reached its peak. That every trick had been done a thousand times. Maybe I even thought that too. Enter Kilian Martin. This video says everything you need to know about the promise this guy has for the industry. Most people would never even have conceived the tricks he is throwing down. And I am pleased to report that for the third year running a decent person has won the championship, and in another British made car. Alonso looked set to win his third world title, which unless you are Spanish you certainly did not want to see happen. Let’s face it he is a bit of a douche.

Over the past few years he has often been the centre of scandals, that seem to have harmed those around him more than himself. Thankfully his poor 7th place finish lead the way for Vettel, now the youngest world champion in history, to take the crown. The best part about it was that Vettel has never previously lead the world championship until he won it on the last day. He seems like a decent bloke so well done to you sir.

Feel pretty sorry for Webber though, he arguable drove as good as anyone this season, but sometimes the luck just doesn’t go your way. A bit like Barrichello last year. But top marks go to Team Red Bull, not only for winning the Drivers and Constructors championships, but for doing it without using team orders, that compromise the race and sports integrity. *Cough (Ferrari). Tottenham Hostspur, the new kids on the European scene after qualifying for the Champions League for the first time, faced Inter Milan, the European Champions at White Heart Lane. The game promised to be a memorable one after the two teams met a fortnight earlier in Italy in a 7 goal thriller, where Inter went 4-0 ahead in the first half and got the Spurs keeper sent off in the first 10 minutes. Yet despite being a man down Tottenham crawled their way back to eventually lose 4-3 after a simply sublime performance from 21 year old Gareth Bale who scored all 3 goals against the reigning champions. Surely this was the best loss Tottenham had ever had?

But all was far from lost as Tottenham hosted Inter Milan at White Heart Lane in what was possibly one of the biggest games ever to take place in their historic stadium. The place was electric. You could feel the hope and belief of thousands of the fans that European new comers could achieve the unthinkable and topple the current champions. All could see from the first whistle that the team believed it too. Where most teams in the Champions League play overly cautious football, especially against such fierce rivals as Inter, Spurs went out all guns blazing.

As a lifelong Spurs fan, it was just a joy to see them play such a high profile club. But to see them play so skilfully, so tidily, and so attractively was simply an amazing feeling. Tottenham quite simply outclassed Inter Milan in every part of the pitch for the entire game. They bring a unique playing style to the tournament of attractive attacking football that perhaps has not been seen for quite some time. They took risks, and boy did they pay off. Every single player in the team played exceptional football. Spurs fans know they are capable of playing this well, but we don’t always see it. This was not only the best Spurs performance I as a fan have ever seen, but it was one of the best most flawless performances of any team I have ever seen.

To top it off, Gareth Bale not only managed to match his unbelievable performance in the last encounter but exceed it, providing one of the all time best performances in Tottenham’s great history. Bale, playing in his first ever European championship, made a complete mug of the widely proclaimed best right back in the world Maicon. He made 2 of the best assists you will ever see to set up Peter Crouch and Pavlyuchenko’s goals making the Inter right back look like a school boy in comparison.

The fans were electric and elated and truly were the 12th man. You could hear them chanting “Taxi for Maicon” as Bale continued to outplay what is arguably the best back 4 in the game. You could cut the tension with a knife when Eto clawed one back to make it 2-1 at the 80 minute mark. Spurs fans have seen amazing performances been taken away from us many times before, but not this time. With a simply astonishing run down the left wing by Gareth Bale to set up Pavlyuchenko to ensure Tottenham got perhaps their best win of this century, if not of all time. All this with a team that is lacking some of our biggest players to injury.

As Spurs fans we can olny hope we can carry momentum from this win back into the Premier League and continued in Europe to hopefully make it through to the next round at the top of our group. But we also can only hope that Gareth Bale stays with us during the next transfer window. He has no doubt attracted the worlds top teams as a wise investment and put his name up for the young player of the year. It’s not like Tottenham really need the money. Redknapp claimed in the post match conference the the clubs owners had good wealth management in place and were not in need of selling any players. I am actually quietly confident that we will stay because of the man that he is. He is only 21 and very quiet and shy. He doesn’t drink and when Redknapp gave him 4 days off last week after working so hard, he went and stayed with his mother in Cardiff.

Bale is not like a lot of footballers out there. Bale is an athlete. Rooney is just a footballer. John Terry is just a footballer. Ashley Cole is just a footballer. These people are just as engrossed with the lifestyle off the pitch as they are with their time on it. Bale is different. He is 100% football and look at where it has got him. We can only hope that he does not get corrupted by the huge sums of money he is likely to see waved at him in the coming months. Stay at Tottenham Gareth! It really is the best thing for you.

A comedian disguised as a fake news reporter, his show “The Daily Show” has grown from a nightly cable comedy show to one of the most trusted sources of news and political commentary. How did this happen?

Because it was different. Because unlike everything else on American TV, Jon Stewart was honest, intelligent, unbiased and genuine. It is easy to forget that there is more than two types of people in America. Not everyone can be pigeon holed as either republican or democrats. Jon appealed to the normal people, the ones you don’t see on the news channels. A show that mostly talked about politics, watched by the people who don’t care about politics.

Over the years, Stewart has become more and more outspoken and more and more people have listened. He has forced politicians to up their game, by catching out and exposing many of their lies and corrupt doings. Meanwhile real news channels and political commentators have become more and more outspoken, yet more and more partisan and biased. Stewart virtually stands alone as one of the only neutral political commentators around. Both Republican and Democrats have felt the heat from Stewart and his team, including President Obama who appeared on his show last week to answer for his disappointing first 2 years in office.

A demonstration of Stewart’s political reach and influence and perhaps the peak of his “fake news” career was last weekends “Rally for Sanity”. Likely prompted by Glen Becks recent “Rally for honour”, Stewart hosted a rally on the mall in Washington. But what was it’s purpose? It was not really a publicity stunt for the show. They get enough of that from the news as it is. Thousands attended to show their dislike for current politics, but these were not people that have ever attended a political rally before. There was no one with signs attacking other people. There was no hysteria. Only the attendance of reason. This is what Stewart called for. He called these people together to show the people of America that their is a side to the people that we don’t see on the news networks and that are not represented on TV. These are the normal people of America and they are the majority. But most importantly, just because they may not want to vote Democrat or Republican, does not mean that they do not have a voice.

This is Stewart’s unique style. He is not calling for people to vote for a particular party. His is not calling for better healthcare, lower taxes, more action on climate change or better schooling. He is calling for you to think about what you want, decide for yourself and then stick up for what you want and believe in, because if you can do that, then you are sane and your opinion is important.

The 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa is officially under way, and in 10 minutes 11 men will step out onto the pitch at the wonderful Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg with the hopes and dreams of an entire continent behind them.

It is the first World Cup ever to take place on the African Continent. Don’t underestimate the importance this holds for the African people. It is truly a great day in their history and ours. 7 African teams have made it into the tournament, all in separate groups, so they have a strong chance of an African team making it to the quarters or even semi finals.

There is no clear favourite for the competition this year, but there is a strong feeling here in England that this is our year. It is perhaps the best squad we have had since the Lineker era in the 80′s. I do think we have a real chance this year. We have a strong midfield and defence, but perhaps all our eggs lie in one Wayne Rooney shaped basket up front. The two Spurs front two of Crouch and Defoe would really have to step up to match the likes of Eto, Messi and the mighty Torres. With hopes higher than ever before, the boys in white and red will race a tough reception after their flight to the UK if they do not making to at least the Semi Finals.

I think it will be a fight between Spain, Argentina, England and Brazil for the title, it does not look likely that an African Nation can win the world cup. But at the end of the day, they are already winners for finally bringing the World Cup to the Continent. Men of England, it’s time to write the future.

But I don’t really rate her any more. She can’t act, but to be fair she knows it. She has got a lot of bad press for it but I don’t think she is a diva as some people make out. After the filming of Transformers 2, Fox slated Michael Bay and his production team, despite having already signed up to make a third Transformers movie. Bay’s production team replied in kind, saying she was horrible to work with a terrible actress.

After months of claiming the despite was behind them, Fox finally decided that she no longer wanted to be part of the third movie. A descision we should all be happy about. Why? I’ll show you why!

Rosie Huntington Whiteley Lingerie ModelThat is lingerie model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and she will be replacing Megan Fox in Transformers 3. Win. Rosie had not done much acting, instead starting her career as a lingerie model for Victoria’s Secret. She joins what is looking to be a very interesting array of new cast members for the third Transformers movie including Frances McDormand, John Malkovich and Patrick Dempsey. I actually saw her in a shop with her partner Jason Statham outside of the Coachella Music Festival in California last month. Lets just say pictures do not do her justice.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has, would you believe it, already worked with Michael Bay. Bay directed a Victoria’s Secret advert which no doubt gave her the opportunity to impress. What’s that? You want to see this advert? Go on then, oh how I spoil you.

The Beautiful game. And it is never more beautiful that when your team is winning. That is why it is sometimes hard to be a Spurs fan. But it is never dull.

Harry Redknapp

This season was different. It felt different from the start. After the disappointment of narrowly missing out on a Europa League place last season despite a terrible start, there was a new feeling of hope for their Premier league chances. For once, everything seemed to fall into place. The season couldn’t have started better than the 2-1 win over Liverpool. A game that set the tone for a season that would eventually see Tottenham replace Liverpool in the Top 4.

Tottenham Hotspur have always been a great team. But they have not always been a successful team. They have always had the ability to contend with the seemingly unbreakable top 4, but have perhaps lacked that final part of the engine to drive them there.

That missing piece finally arrived in the form of Harry Redknapp in late 2008. Spurs have been through alot of managers over the past years, none of which really settled in or made a big impact. But Redknapp filled a void that no one really noticed was empty. They needed a rock, a solid leader they could anchor themselves to. A constant. Low and behold, in less than 2 seasons, Redknapp rallied Spurs from the Bottom of the League to the top 4 elite. An amazing achievement from a British manager, with a largely British team.

It is this British character that has always been with Tottenham and has always made them an entertaining team to watch. The Big 4 of Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have dominated the Premier League for nearly 15 years. But these clubs have relied heavily on foreign talent to compete both domestically and on the European stage.

How apt it was then that at the end of the season, the battle for 4th place came down to the British character of Tottenham, versus the foreign wealth of a newly refinanced Manchester City. In the end the British core of the Tottenham team: Ledley King, Michael Dawson, Aaron Lennon, Tom Huddlestone, Gareth Bale, David Bentley, Jermaine Defoe, Peter Crouch and the rock holding it together, manager Harry Redknapp.

Crouch Secures 4th For SpursDespite the many millions spent on the new Man City team buy their new Billionaire owner from Abu Dhabi, they never really kicked into gear in the match, rarely gelling as a team. Tottenham however stayed strong throughout, with the two centre-backs of Ledley King and Michael Dawson never giving City’s Tevez or Adebayor a chance on goal. With the British striking force of Defoe and and Crouch up front it was only a matter of time before the plucky Brits got the ball into the back of the Manchester City net. Thanks to a Peter Crouch header, the night ends Manchester City 0 – 1 Tottenham, and with it ends Man City’s chances of reaching the Champions league.

It just goes to show that money doesn’t make a great football team. Regardless of reaching their 4th place target, Man City have achieved good things this year with their highest ever Premiership finish, and they are definitely a good team. But it was the years of character that made Tottenham a great team this season. So as Man City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan sits on his flight to Abu Dhabi today, he should realize that you can buy all the great players you want, but you cannot buy history and character. Better luck next time City. Up the Spurs!

Modern Warfare was a near perfect game with an excellent gaming engine that gave one of the most realistic infantry simulations of any medium. In steps Modern Warfare 2.

Modern Warfare 2 is set to be a milestone in the history of computer games. Self proclaimed as the most anticipated game of the decade (and rightfully so) Modern Warfare 2 is likely to break every record in the book and take the crown of best first person shooter of all time. All reviews claim the game meets or even surpasses the massive hype surrounding its release, which is a rarity. The games is available everywhere from today for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Hot tip to save cash is that Sainsbury’s are selling it for only £26 for today and today only.

It’s unique in that anyone can participate. You can get involved by anything from entire event production to performing at your  own show, to marketing events. You choose the venue, you pick the acts, you raise money for charity. This year Oxjam is bigger than ever, with bands ranging from chart toppers Fat boy Slim to your local garage band, hundreds of gigs have been going on around the country. So if there is one thing that really sucks about America its corporate businesses and their grip on politics.

“Free” America prides itself on its private, non government run businesses. Instead these businesses run the government. The Government pay out Billions a week to businesses to do its bidding, from everything to health-care to armed forces. Acorn is one such company that has been brought to light recently.

Acorn provide grassroots community organization of low- and moderate-income people. Sounds like a perfect target for them at FOX News indeed. FOX sent a fake under cover Pimp to Acorn offices to try and get financial support whilst claiming to be a pimp, and in some cases succeeded. It does indeed show that Acorn can be corrupted and something does need to be done about it. But Acorn are saints compared to some other government funded businesses.

Enter MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. This is the first piece of passionate truthful investigative reporting I think I’ve ever witnessed from the America press. Kudos Rachel Maddow.

Fox have caused a rally of calls recently lead by comedian Jon Stewart, host of an American Satire news show which has recently been voted more reliable for news than the American press, for the end of biased, ignorant and dishonest reporting. Fox News should simply not be allowed to call themselves a news station, entertainment maybe, but a recourse for “Fair and Balanced” factual news, it certainly is not.

CNN reporter Rick Sanchez has finally stood up to Fox News after they run an advert in the Washington Post claiming that CNN did not report on the recent FOX sponsored Tea party protests in Washington. Sanchez well and truly calls out FOX for their dishonesty, and quoting Joe Wilson’s recent outburst at Obama, “You Lie”

Carbon Capture Trees

Researchers are working on Carbon Capturing Trees, mocked up here lining our motorways, in an attempt to council out car emissions. Some say that a mere 100,000 would remove the same amount of CO2 from the atmosphere as is emitted by all of Britain’s cars, vans and lorry’s every year.

The study, by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, into how technology could prevent climate change offers the trees as an opportunity to give the world more time to find a more permanently solution. The reality is that the worlds resources are running out as it is, so preventing global warming is not the only problem with the CO2 dependant world economy.

So budding scientists out there, this is a step forward, but not a permanent solution. We still face the inevitable global warming, water and food shortages, running out of oil. Make something that will fix it! Please…
